Who we are and what we do

Who we are ...

The Borehole Water Association of Southern Africa is a non-profit and trade association representing all aspects of the groundwater industry. Included in our membership are central and local government departments, leading private enterprises that manufacture drilling, pumping, electronic and ancillary equipment, professional consultants, contractors and interested individuals.

A brief history ...

The BWA was formed in 1980 and our strategy is to promote awareness via education of the consumer of the responsible use of the resource and its future management. At all times guaranteeing the protection of groundwater by demanding the application of minimum standards of practice.

What we offer ...

  • The Borehole Water Journal: A fully representative and impartial quarterly magazine meeting the needs of both decision makers and end-users in the groundwater industry, mining and public administration sectors. The BWJ covers a broad spectrum of topics, from problems to cost-effective solutions. The BWJ is an ideal forum for advertisers and for the dissemination of information.
  • Groundwater – A Layman’s Guide To Borehole Ownership: Written with a view to assisting end-users or communities in the management of their own groundwater resources.
  • Water Talk: The official BWA members’ newsletter, which keeps members up-to-date with the latest developments in their industry.
  • Drilling Contract: A document, which protects both contractor and end-user.

What we have achieved ...

  • By providing technical knowledge, the BWA has assisted many contractors in reducing their input costs.
  • By recommending members to prospective clients, the BWA has provided many quality sales leads.
  • By promoting and ensuring standards, the BWA has helped end-users to see the pit-falls of accepting 'cheap' quotes from unknown contractors.
  • By providing independent arbitration, the BWA has settled many disputes.
  • By compiling the BWA Membership Directory, the BWA has promoted members to prospective customers.
  • By acting as a 'watchdog', the BWA has kept members informed of all water related activities.
